Comparison Models of Rubber Fenders

foam-filled fenders, pneumatic fenders,  or any other type of fender, there are different designs on the market for different applications:

*Cylindrical fenders. Shaped like a thick tube and hollow in the center, these are economical and well-suited to different types and sizes of vessel at the same berth.

*Arch fenders – V type Fender. Mounted like cylindrical fenders except with a flat surface rather than a cylinder, arch fenders are easy to install, maintenance free and do not require tension and shear chains.

* D fenders semi cylindrical fenders for tug,as dock bumper ware house or jetty construction

*Dyna Arch Fenders. This variation on the arch fender includes steel reinforcement on the wharf side and is preferred when dock walls are weaker.

*W Fenders. Like the arch fender design, with a groove down the middle. W fenders are mounted vertically in sections and are well suited for larger vessels.

* M fenders

*Cone fenders. Shaped like a top hat, these can be deflected up to 72%, giving better energy absorption at lesser height.

*Cell fenders. Offer a flat surface backed by an energy-absorbing cell behind it. They are best when a minimal reaction or “bounce” is desired.
*Roller fenders. As the name suggests, roller fenders are a series of oversize rubber wheels in brackets. They are designed for a vessel that is still on the move in areas such as narrow entries or corners.

*Ladder fenders. As the name implies, they can double as steps onto the jetty or dock, as well as providing protection to vessels and structures. Formed from abrasion resistant rubber compounds with steel inserts, they are best suited for smaller vessels.

*Pneumatic fenders. Inflatable pneumatic  fenders are usually used when a greater offset between dock and ship is desired. Generally equipped with chain nets and tires, they offer excellent load deflection, energy absorption and resistance to shear force. They are also easily removed and reused elsewhere.

*Foam-filled fenders. The advent of the foam-filled fender saw all of the advantages of the pneumatic fender (load deflection, energy absorption, durability) with none of the disadvantages (air pressure, safety valves). They also have less “bounce” on impact, conform better to the vessel’s contours and are near indestructible in any conditions.
